¨Barbieland¨ Girls bedroom
I was very inspired by Barbie dream house "Barbie goes to college" issued in 1964.
Of course this was only my inspiration as my imagination took over quickly.
At the right top of the condominium was the attic and next room was unused and only full of stored left over furniture waiting to be...or not to be... used. So I decided to switch the two room. replaced and re-organised the attic to the top left and to make the girls room at the top right. It was as well more accessible for me.
Here is a pic of the original attic (right) and the original Storage room
Now the attic found its new place. I am ready to make the girls bedroom.
This is the inspiration "Barbie goes to college" 1964- from Mattel
Davina is helping a lot, she is so happy that her little girls will soon have their own space
Inspired by the original model, I sketched and re-scaled the furniture to be adapted at the little 9,5" skipper size
I have plenty of colored craft paper, with the right colors orange, green and yellow. so I used those rather than paint
To create the furniture, I used mostly strong cardboard for the big elements, like the beds and shelving. For the smaller pieces of furniture I used cereal boxes.
When the beds, chairs and desks were done I glued the yellow wall paper (picnic coated paper table cloth)
After the wall paper was dry, I placed the headboards
For the bed covers and headboard I used a flowery green cotton. The orange part are made of cardboard covered with craft paper . For the little yellow highlight line I used white water color pencil.
The TV set was originally a picture frame/Christmas ornament. I've found it in a second hand market bag of mixed stuff years ago. I cleaned it and repainted it. I added a piece of transparent paper behind which I can slide pre-printed photos of several children's shows.
Of course after the furniture. I added details, accessories and prop. Paper cut at full speed ;) Books, paper dolls, magazines, toys, games, puzzles and my favorite "images d'Epinal.
Épinal prints were prints and sold in France in the 19th century. They owe their name to the fact that the first publisher J-C Pellerin having been born in Épinal (Vosges), named the printing house he founded in 1796, "Imagerie d'Epinal"
Here are some example of those I've found in the web, reduced, cut, glued to be at my little girls scale.
To add a bit of coziness to this bedroom, I made a carpet. I used a dark green piece of felt and irregularly sewn crochet flowers on it.. The bedroom is now done.
Louana & Tica are very happy in their new bedroom. Here the are , in their PJ" holding their favorite companion. After doing their school homework, they are watching a TV show.
